BUILDING DEPARTMENT CHANGES
Effective SEPTEMBER 17, 2012 and until SEPTEMBER 30, 2012, NEW building permits will be handled by Oshtemo Township Inspectors. You can still call our office at 382-0223 to ask questions, pick up permits and schedule inspections. Any permits that were obtained from AGS (Associated Government Services) will be inspected by them until finaled.
Effective OCTOBER 1, 2012, Cooper Township will be joining the newly formed KALAMAZOO AREA BUILDING AUTHORITY (KABA). The KABA website is: www.kaba-mi.org. Permits can be accessed, filled out and printed from this website. There will be two satellite offices for KABA - one at Comstock Township and one at Oshtemo Townhsip. We also can provide permits and answer some general questions at the Cooper Township Office.

General Information
The Cooper Charter Township Office is open Monday through Friday. Hours are 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Cooper Charter Township is one of 15 townships in Kalamazoo County, which is located in the Northwestern part of Kalamazoo County. (Map) We are a growing residential community with some commercial and industrial base. The population is approximately 10,111 according to the 2010 Census.
There are four schools districts in Cooper:
- Gull Lake
- Parchment
- Plainwell
- Otsego
Plainwell and Otsego Schools are served by Allegan Intermediate; Parchment and Gull Lake Schools are served by K/RESA.
The Kalamazoo Nature Center is located in Cooper Charter Township which contains more than 600 acres of meadows, young woodlands and undisturbed natural areas.
Markin Glen Park is located in Cooper Charter Township. A parks Foundation Board protects and preserves Markin Glen for future generations to enjoy.
Cooper Charter Township has several different boards and commissions. Monthly meeting schedules are posted on-line and on the bulletin board at the township office.
